Deadgirl… A movie about, (SPOILER ALERT)… A dead girl! Well, a mostly dead girl… Trust me, you want to see this movie!  Both directors and nearly the entire cast were on hand for yet another rockin’ evening at the Ryerson. I’d write more but it’s been 7 hours since I drank my last shot of 6 hour energy so vital body functions are starting to shut down… Dammit, there goes the left hand… Enjoy the Intro & Q&As. See ya’ll in line for Not Quite Hollywood.

Actually, having seen this movie, I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone. I appreciate what the writer, directors, and actors were doing. But it really seems like a movie directed at a male audience, and could actually be very upsetting for women.

Even so, a guy who's past objectifying women (and all the issues that entails) and whose moral compass is no longer swayed by peer pressure won't find much food for thought in this movie either. He'll probably end up laughing at the characters' justifications for their atrocious actions (or lack of actions) - just as I and a good portion of the midnight madness audience did.

Still, it’s very well done and will probably shake up a lot of guys who thought they were going to see some kind of exploitation movie. Thematically, it kind of reminds me of Stand By Me (1986) and a male version May (2002) and maybe Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers (1988).

Funny, my female friends, (me being a guy) laughed and took no offense with it. It, like lots of films, is not for everyone. Truthfully, its about what boys are like at that age. I grew up in a rough area like that and I could easily relate to some of the characters as I knew kids like that.

Like it or not, it is a film that will stick with you more than drivel like the Texas CHainsaw remake or Friday the 13th.
