official description

Winner of the Best Director prize at the 1987 Cannes film festival, Wim Wenders' poetic fable follows two angels, Damiel (Bruno Ganz) and Cassiel (Otto Sander), as they drift through the divided city of Berlin, fulfilling their eternal mission of witness by silently overhearing the thoughts, dreams and sorrows of the humans around them. When Damiel falls in love with a beautiful trapeze artist (Solveig Dommartin), he is faced with the choice of sacrificing eternal life for the chance to experience the joys (and the pains) of mortality. Gorgeously shot in silvery black and white by the great French cinematographer Henri Alekan and co-written by the acclaimed Austrian novelist Peter Handke, Wings of Desire has become enshrined as a modern classic of European art cinema.
