official description

Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar has become an international household name for his vibrant, eye-poppingly colourful postmodern melodramas, crackling with the unbridled energy of his marvelous actresses. One of his most successful and critically acclaimed works, All About My Mother won both the Academy Award® for Best Foreign Language Film and the Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Following the tragic death of her son, the middle-aged Manuela (Cecilia Roth) embarks on a quest to find the boy's long-lost transvestite father, which leads her into a job as assistant to the theatre diva (Marisa Paredes) her son idolized and a relationship with an idealistic young nun (Penélope Cruz). Shifting deftly from dark comedy to absurd stops-out soap opera to moving, heartfelt drama, All About My Mother offers a virtuosic demonstration of Almodóvar's masterful facility with tone.
