official description

A gory genre classic and one of the most influential Canadian films ever made, David Cronenberg's prescient portrait of a media age at its extremes remains disturbing, thought-provoking and indelibly icky. When a renegade TV executive (James Woods) becomes intrigued by a mysterious pirate station broadcasting seemingly unsimulated torture and murder 24/7, he soon finds his life, his career, and his sanity threatened. Featuring a wild and snarky performance by Woods, the film debut of Blondie's Deborah Harry as his insatiably kinky lover, and Rick Baker's amazing special effects, Videodrome sees Cronenberg deploying and developing his signature motifs—particularly the key theme of characters' bodies betraying them—to unsettling and exquisitely lurid effect. "An audacious attempt to place obsessive personal images before a popular audience—a kind of Kenneth Anger version of Star Wars" (Dave Kehr).

Our screening of Videodrome will be introduced by filmmaker David Cronenberg.
