official description

The dawn of the summer blockbuster, Steven Spielberg's gut-wrenching adventure-horror classic combines drive-in thrills with masterful suspense (greatly aided by Verna Fields' razor-sharp editing) and performances that range from subtly underplayed to deliciously hammy. When a great white shark terrorizes a small resort community in Maine, the local sheriff (Roy Scheider) hires an oceanographer (Richard Dreyfuss) and a rather piratical local fisherman (Robert Shaw) to hunt it down. Herman Melville crossed with Roger Corman, Jaws terrified audiences worldwide and announced Spielberg's arrival as one of the most powerful and influential filmmakers in the world.
