official description

An almost unbearably moving masterwork, Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List sees one of modern cinema's most popular storytellers abandoning his signature high-gloss style to create a film of restrained and haunting beauty. Adapting Thomas Keneally's non-fiction account of German war profiteer Oskar Schindler's attempts to save his Jewish employees from the death camps of World War II, Spielberg dispensed with the bombastic setpieces that made his name and allowed the sombre black-and-white photography, the grimly realistic design and the brilliant performances of Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley and Ralph Fiennes to set the tone, crafting a film that is as poignant a personal statement as the director has ever made.
