official description

One of the most famous and beloved musicals of all time, Singin' in the Rain is simply irresistible. Set in 1920s Hollywood as silent films hesitantly give way to sound, the film's delightful story follows a swashbuckling matinee idol (Gene Kelly) as he falls in love with a bright-eyed newcomer (Debbie Reynolds) while trying to duck his jealous, narcissistic onscreen romantic partner (Jean Hagen), whose parrot-squawk of a voice makes her distinctly unsuited for the new talking pictures. Filled with outstanding musical sequences—Donald O'Connor's amazingly acrobatic "Make 'Em Laugh", the epic "Broadway Melody", and of course Kelly's immortal performance of the title tune—Singin' in the Rain is not only the greatest of Hollywood musicals but one of the great American movies.
