official description

Francis Ford Coppola's hallucinatory Vietnam epic is sometimes overshadowed by the legend of its own famously troubled production, but the film that emerged remains one of the most ambitious and awe-inspiring war movies ever made, particularly in this longer cut prepared by Coppola and editor Walter Murch in 2001. Based on Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, Apocalypse Now follows Special Forces officer Willard (Martin Sheen) into the depths of Cambodia on his mission to find and assassinate a rogue, possibly insane colonel named Kurtz (Marlon Brando), who has built himself a bloody miniature kingdom deep within the jungle. Elevating the Vietnam War to (literally) Wagnerian heights, Apocalypse Now complements its disturbingly thrilling combat scenes with potent speculations on the madness and morality of war.

We will be joined at our screening of Apocalypse Now Redux by one of the American cinema's greatest film editors, film theorists and film artists, the legendary Walter Murch.
