official description

The paramount collaboration between John Ford and his perennial star John Wayne, The Searchers has exerted a profound influence on such directors as Paul Schrader, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. Wayne plays Ethan Edwards, a bitter, taciturn Confederate veteran whose family is slaughtered and young niece abducted by Comanches. Ethan's obsessive search for the girl turns into a vengeful seven-year odyssey, where he comes face to face with the hatred that is steadily corrupting him and the humanity that remains stubbornly within him. Adorned with glorious widescreen vistas of Utah's Monument Valley, Ford's masterpiece combines the pleasures of the epic western with a penetrating psychological and thematic complexity, creating one of the richest and most inexhaustible of American films.
