ARCHIVAL PRINT!

Famously told (almost) entirely in still shots, Chris Marker's innovative, mindbending science-fiction classic is a rumination on the idea of time worthy of Proust (or Borges). In a post-apocalyptic future, one man—whose cryptic childhood memory of a crying woman and a dying man on an airport observation platform provides him with a powerful connection to the lost past—is selected to travel back in time to the Paris of his youth to find the salvation for his dying world, where he also finds the woman whose memory has haunted him for his whole life. A touchstone for the visual arts as much as for the cinema, La Jetée is perhaps the greatest of Marker's many speculations on the power and mysteries of memory.
