official description

Federico Fellini's panorama of "the sweet life" defined decadence for a generation with its vision of Rome at the height of the postwar Italian economic miracle. Marcello Mastroianni plays a writer turned gossip columnist who drifts from party to party, a detached observer of the Eternal City's frenzy of false miracles, promiscuous sex and resigned despair. Containing some of the most memorable imagery in all cinema—including the opening shots of a statue of Jesus suspended from a helicopter and the voluptuous Anita Ekberg cavorting in the Trevi Fountain— La Dolce Vita decisively marked Fellini's move from neorealism into the wilder realms of fantasy and allegory.
