official description

"The most brilliant, varied, and entertaining movie since Citizen Kane" (Dwight Macdonald), Federico Fellini's dazzling semi-autobiographical fantasia features Marcello Mastroianni as Fellini's alter ego Guido, a film director whose latest project is being feverishly rushed through pre-production even though he has no idea what it will be about. Tormented by creative block, Guido takes refuge in dreams and memories, the real and imagined people and places from his past flooding into (and becoming indistinguishable from) his present reality. Featuring some of the most iconic sequences in film history—a stifling traffic jam giving way to a transcendent flight through the clouds, a palace of women revolting against their ineffectual, whip-wielding master— shows Fellini at the height of his imaginative powers.
