Media Accreditation

The Toronto International Film Festival grants media accreditation to a limited number of professional arts and entertainment journalists. For those wishing to apply via the internet, we have provided an online media accreditation application form. For all other requests, please follow the applicable instructions below.

New Accreditation Requests for Journalists and Photographers

Due to limited theatre capacity and the need to maintain high service levels, the Toronto International Film Festival's Communications Department can accommodate only a very limited number of new requests each year. Early application improves your chance of accreditation, but in no way guarantees it. Accreditation to the Toronto International Film Festival is solely at the discretion of the Communications Department. New requests are not accepted after July 1, 2008.

To be considered for accreditation, please complete the online accreditation application and submit ALL of the following original documents before July 1, 2008:

  1. A letter from your editor/producer on official company letterhead assigning you to cover the Festival. The letter must specify the following information:
    • in as much detail as possible, the type and focus of the planned editorial coverage;
    • the primary market and target audience; and
    • the date when the coverage will be published or broadcast.
  2. Recent published/broadcast coverage of either a film festival, a film-related story or an arts/entertainment story written or produced by you with an attached byline and date;
  3. recent copy of the complete publication/programme for which you are seeking accreditation.

Please note your application is not complete until we have received all support materials. Once all support materials are received, the Communications Department will acknowledge receipt and will begin the review of your application. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Should you have further enquiries, please contact the Communications Department at 416-934-3200 or by e-mail at [email protected]

Returning Journalists

If you attended the Festival in 2007 as an accredited journalist, you must have submitted your coverage by January 1, 2008, and be in good standing. Please note that it is your responsibility to confirm with the Communications Department that your coverage has been received if you wish to be considered for accreditation.

If you are in good standing, you will receive an email by June 27, 2008, from the Communications Department inviting you to apply as a returning journalist.

If you did not receive an email confirming your coverage was received, please contact the Communications Department as soon as possible at 416-934-3200 or by e-mail at [email protected].

If you know journalists who would like to attend the 33rd Toronto International Film Festival, please direct them to the New Request procedure above..

Journalists Changing Affiliation

If you are a returning journalist wanting to change your media affiliation, please contact the Communications Department as soon as possible at 416-934-3200 or by e-mail at [email protected]. Media accreditation is subject to Communications Department approval of the applicant's affiliation. Your past work as an accredited journalist will be taken into account upon assessment of your application.

Returning Journalists Who Missed 2007 or Previous Years

If you have been accredited for the Toronto International Film Festival in the past but missed last year and are with the same media outlet, please contact the Communications Department at 416-934-3200 or [email protected].
