Now that the server isn't being slammed from across the globe here is the long awaited top 5 (part 1 is located here) 5 & 4. Happy Birthday Dario! Last year’s opener was Dario
Argento’s Mother of Tears and it
happened to be Dario’s Birthday. So Colin led the crowd in a rousing rendition
of Happy Birthday. And during the film, the fire alarm went off! Rather than
streaming out of the theater like Midnight Maniacs everyone stayed firmly in
place. Mainly because most of us thought it was part of the score. Eventually
someone yelled “TURN IT OFF” and the alarm was silenced. We midnight maniacs
are a devoted bunch, we’d rather be burned alive than leave a movie early!
3. Zombies invade midnight madness. I’m often mistaken for a
zombie attending a madness flick late in the festival. Sleeping 2-4 hours a
night starts to affect your appearance people. Go figure. But during last years
madness the Toronto Zombie Walk showed up in full force for the premiere of George A. Romero’s Diary of the Dead. At
least I hope they were from the zombie walk… Shudder.
2. Tony Jaa Tears the roof off the sucka. Read the posts about
Ong Bak’s standing ovation.
1. Jagshemash, My name-a Borat. Okay, in the interest of
full disclosure, I wasn’t at this screening. I *wanted* to be there, but so did
about 1000 other people who apparently beat me out in the ticket lottery. But
from what I hear this was one unforgettable madness. “Kazakh” women pulled a
carriage riding Sacha Baron Cohen into the
Ryerson. Sometime during the screening the film broke. Michael Moore (yeah THE
Michael Moore) ran up to the projection booth to try to repair it. Finally
Cohen came to the stage and threatened to castrate poor Colin. Oh, did I mention
most of this is on Youtube!
